Transport for London (TfL) has today revealed plans to introduce step-free access at North Acton and Northolt stations, marking a significant milestone in the capital’s journey towards greater accessibility.

The announcement has been welcomed by Bassam Mahfouz, Labour’s London Assembly candidate for Ealing and Hillingdon.

Mahfouz has long campaigned for improvements to transport network accessibility, having successfully spearheaded campaigns for the installation of lifts at Greenford and Hanwell stations.

The move to implement step-free access at North Acton and Northolt stations are part of Mayor of London Sadiq Khan’s plans for a more inclusive and accessible network. Since Sadiq became Mayor, the proportion of step-free Tube stations has increased from a quarter to a third.

The introduction of step-free access at North Acton and Northolt will see works start at the latter early next year.

Cllr Bassam Mahfouz, Labour’s London Assembly candidate for Ealing & Hillingdon, said:
“I am thrilled to see TfL and the Mayor’s commitment to enhancing accessibility across London’s transport infrastructure. Step-free access is not just about convenience; it’s about ensuring equal opportunities for all members of our community to travel independently and with dignity.

“The upgrades at North Acton and Northolt stations will undoubtedly improve the daily lives of countless individuals, including those with disabilities, parents with young children, and elderly passengers.”
